Lucid Dreaming: Pressing The Rewind Button

Lucid dreaming is a fascinating topic and one I’ve been reading about for years. It doesn’t really make me an expert, but I can tell you some interesting things about my own lucid dreaming. For one thing, I can press the “rewind” button if I don’t like how a dream is playing out. I rewind it a bit, then make a different choice, so I get a better dream outcome. I know it sounds really weird, and I’ve never met anyone else who has done the “rewind” thing. So, let’s get started talking about a fun topic!

What Exactly is Lucid Dreaming?
Everyone knows what a dream is, but what exactly is a lucid dream? It is being aware that you are dreaming while you are in the dream. Sometimes, those who lucid dream can also control the dream. I have always had lucid dreams as long as I can remember, but here’s where my experience differs. In those with lucid dreaming, the main focus is being AWARE you are dreaming. I never really had that, but I did have 100 percent control over my dreams. I can’t remember when it began or even how; it’s just always been there for me. The “experts” claim that this is also lucid dreaming, but I’ve just never met anyone else who can control their dreams the way I can.
Vivid Imagination & Lonely Childhood
I don’t know about anyone else who has lucid dreams, but I always had a very active imagination. Part of it I think I was born with, but the other part was due to my living environment. Childhood wasn’t a happy place for me; the people I lived with were terrifying monsters, and I was isolated and alone a lot. Back then, we didn’t have screens. All the stimulation either came from the environment or our minds. So, some of us, myself included, learned to create entire worlds in our minds. Then, there are those who can even visit those worlds without even closing their eyes. They are just layers and layers of clear plastic worlds overlapping the real world. That’s me!

Lucid Dreams vs Nightmares
I personally had never had a lucid dream that would also be categorized as a nightmare. Now, I’ve had a few nightmares in my life, but I had zero control over them. I also had no idea they were nightmares until after I had woken up. I suppose it’s possible for someone to have a “bad” lucid dream. If I am wrong about that, please correct me. We are all exploring and learning here!
Press Rewind
Now, back to lucid dreaming, there have been many times I wasn’t aware I was dreaming, but I usually seem to have a “pause” and “rewind” button. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed a fast-forward button, but moving on. In dreams, I am not aware I am dreaming most of the time. However, if the dreams go bad or start to head in a dark direction, I simply press the rewind button. I don’t even need to press it with my finger. Just looking at it and telling it to reward or pause is enough in my lucid dreaming.
I rewind it a bit, and then I can basically start over and make a different choice, or go in a different direction.
My whole life, I thought everyone had this ability. Especially as a child, I truly didn’t understand people who had nightmares or bad dreams. In my dreams, I go to some fabulous places! Sometimes I get to visit people who have passed on, and sometimes I just explore a new world or dimension.
I would love to hear if you have ever had lucid dreams. Do you have a rewind button, or do you control them another way?
